Thomas Seabrook family papers, 1789-1844 1795-1815.

The papers consist mostly of survey certificates done for Thomas Seabrook, Sr., Stephen Seabrook, and Thomas Seabrook, Jr. There are eight certificates drawn up from 1795 to 1815 that assess lands in Middletown, Dover, Shrewsbury, and Freehold Townships in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Andrew Bell, as the Surveyor General of the Eastern Division of the State of New Jersey, and James Parker, as the Junior General Surveyor of the Eastern Division of the State of New Jersey, signed all of the documents. The collection also contains the will of Thomas Seabrook, Jr., two other documents concerning Seabrook land dealings, and a miscellaneous note written by Mary Lowell Darraeott Edes regarding family chairs.

The Seabrooks were early residents of Monmouth County, New Jersey. Thomas Seabrook (1735-1805), the son of Mary Brown and Daniel Seabrook, earned the rank of major during the Revolutionary War. He married Martha Tallman, with whom he had five children. Their two sons were Stephen and Thomas Jr. Stephen Seabrook (1759-1843), like his father, fought in the Revolutionary War. Andrew Bell, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bell (d. 1778), was born on June 4, 1757 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His family moved to New Jersey where he was a law student of Cortlandt Skinner at the outbreak of the Revolution.
